Brief Description

The sports industry has a huge potential for job creation. Currently world over the sports industry continues to diversify. Two major areas that have not yet been exploited sufficiently are coaching and sport management. Most countries in Africa still rely heavily on foreign coaches for national teams to compete at the world stage. This is because coaching has changed and continues to be more innovative. This has been attributed to the continued change in prize money at the top of the sporting hierarchy. Hence the need for a world class program to address this need cannot be over emphasized. The Students studying for the Bachelor of Education (Physical Education Option) are introduced to the basic course in Management. However the Department of Physical Education driven by the needs of the country are in the process of developing a Bachelor of Science (Sports Management and Coaching) which will be a four year degree course that will address the current short fall of properly qualified sports managers and coaches in Kenya and continental level. This programme is developed to provide unique hands on approach to the management and coaching of sports to compete with those manager and coaches in other continents.
