Overview

Overview

Physical education is education through the physical. Physical Education plays a very crucial part in growth and development of all human beings. Physical Education emphasises the physical development (psychomotor domain) and movement competence while recognising the attendant cognitive (memorial) and affective values. Educationist has recognised the importance of physical education. In Kenya Physical Education is timetabled for all primary and secondary schools, though due to the shortage of trained teachers these lessons have not been taught. One of the aims of physical education is fitness. Achieving satisfactory physical fitness and developing movement competence demand a programmed, progressive approach in presenting activities. An effective physical fitness program will seek to promote, encourage, and reinforce positive health habits and associated knowledge. The University of Nairobi’s physical education Department has run a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education Option) for the last five years. The essence of the B Ed (Physical Education Option) programme is basically to produce teachers for the Secondary schools and collages who are in dire need for trained teachers.
